Viacom International Media Networks (Twitter: @Viacom), the international division of the American media conglomerate Viacom is all set to join forces with Sanshui New Town Management Committee and Hong Kong Elite Global Group to build the first Nickelodeon theme park.

The estimated $1.71 billion (11.9 billion RMB) project will cover an area of about 750 acres, with Nickelodeon-themed attractions spanning 250 set acres.

Based in China's Foshan area, the theme park will be a part of a larger development called Foshan Cultural and Ecological Coastal Project.

Aiming to give kids and families in Foshan and across China the opportunity to interact with iconic and beloved characters including SpongeBob SquarePants, Dora the Explorer and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the Nickelodeon Cultural Resort is expected to open in 2020.
